Bekkjarvik, situated in the beautiful island municipality of Austevoll south of Bergen, is an old fishing village with old buildings and quays.
Bekkjarvik is home to the venerable Bekkjarvik Gjestgiveri, an old inn built in the 17th century, where they have been welcoming guests for more than 300 years. It was the Danish King Christian IV who decided in the 17th century that inns were to be built at intervals of a whole or half-day’s sailing along the shipping fairway. Today, Bekkjarvik Gjestgiveri is a member of Historiske Hotell og Spisestader Historic Hotels and Restaurants
It is run by Asta and Øystein Johannessen together with their sons Arnt and Ørjan Johannessen. They can proudly welcome guests to eat food prepared by some of Norway and the world’s best chefs – Ørjan Johannessen won Bocuse d´Or Lyon 2015, and his brother Arnt was voted Chef of the Year by Norges Kokkmesteres Landsforening.
In Bekkjarvik, you will also find a lovely, sheltered guest marina that was voted Norway’s top guest marina in 2015. In summer, Bekkjarvik is packed with small boats and sailing boats, as well as small cruise ships and yachts. Here, you can get a taste of authentic Western Norwegian coastal culture and coastal history, and find peace and quiet and enjoy some restful days in the beautiful coastal scenery.
Bekkjarvik hosts large and small events, concerts and exhibitions throughout the year.
You can get here in just an hour on an express boat from Bergen.
You can hire an electric car for two people from Bekkjarvik Gjestgiveri. This is a great way of exploring Bekkjarvik and Austevoll.
