Sunnhordland hosts more than 20 festivals every year, making it one of the biggest festival destinations in Norway.
You can experience everything from international stars and national celebrities to local talent. Many of the festivals in Sunnhordland have a broader focus on families and children. The biggest festivals, such as Pippifestivalen, Tysnesfest, Etnemarknaden, Festidalen, Sæbøvikfestivalen and Fitjarfestivalen have lots of activities for children.
Sunnhordland also hosts the biggest handball festival in Western Norway, Handballfestivalen, and the biggest ‘nynorsk’ (New Norwegian) language festival in Norway, Falturiltu.
The region also hosts numerous shows. The Fitjarrevyen show may be the best known, enjoyed by thousands of people in the show tent next to Fitjar Fjordhotel.

Sunnhordland - the festival destination
With over 20 festivals a year, Sunnhordland has become one of the great festival destinations of Norway. Here you can see and hear local talents as well as big, international stars. Zara Larsson, Status Quo, Toto, Alphaville and Timbuktu have all played in Sunnhordland.
There are festivals for different kinds of music. The village Skånevik is often called the bluesvillage - because of the traditional and popular blues festival taking place here every summer.
“The people of Sunnhordland has the wish, will and ability to create something new. We know how to arrange festivals and events, and we more than often hear that the tourists love the rich cultural program of the summer paradise of Sunnhordland.” Says Øystein Vaage in Tysnesfest festival.
The cultural programme of the Barony Rosendal
Mid March every year the smallest castle in Scandinavia releases their cultural programme for the summer. From May to September you can go to concerts, plays or lectures at the castle.
International stars like Leif Ove Andsnes, Solveig Kringlebotn and Maria Mena have all had concerts at the Barony Rosendal. And many of them come back year after year, as a concert at the Barony is very special for both the artist and the audience. The historical surroundings add a very special atmosphere to the event.
If you are going to a concert or another event at the Barony Rosendal, we recommend combining it with dinner or even an overnight stay in original buildings from year 1850, the home farm and "Fruehuset".
All year round
There are events all year round in Sunnhordland.
Many of the municipalities have their own cultural centres, where both concerts and theatre plays take place.
